Poof Review

Publisher: Neko Entertainment
Developer: Arkedo
Platform: PC/Steam

Poof was pretty fun to play and can get very challenging. You play as a dog protecting a cat from enemies that come through doors and move around the stage towards the cat you have tied up. The stage layout is the same but you can unlock different skins for it.

You defeat the enemies by jumping on them or collecting power ups scattered around the stage. Many of these will also need to be unlocked through completing challenges. Every 3 challenges you complete you get one unlock point. You can get a flaming knife that will fly in a straight line killing any enemy it hits. An electrical tower you can place that will shock your enemy when it gets close by. A few other items will help you too like ice to freeze or hearts for health and they can also be turned into poop to slow the enemy.

Challenges to become pretty tough and the bad thing is you only get 3 at a time and need to do all three before getting new ones. So progress can become slow on unlocking everything in the game. There is no story just a short quick game you can pop on and play for five minutes or 5 hours if you like. It is fun to play and for the low price it's at you'll definitely get your money from it.

Bear Pros:
Fun and cute platforming RTS
Lots of unlockables
Challenging missions

Bear Cons:
May be to challenging early on for some
Only one map to play on
No new challenges until all three are complete

Vessel Review

Publisher: StrangeLoop Games
Developer: IndiePub
Platform: PC/Steam
Controls: Full Controller Support

Vessel is a fluid based puzzle-platformer in which you play as M. Arkwright, an inventor who created an automaton called a Fluro. They were created to help out with laborious tasks which they can perform better than humans. Only problem is they start evolving and running amok so you need to go through the world of Vessel to fix what they have broken.

To help you out in the game you get a liquid gun with a tank attached to it. You can either spray liquid or suck it into it. It’s also upgradeable with different nozzle tips and larger tanks. With this and the Fluros you will be able to complete the puzzles throughout the world.

You’ll play through three different areas where you will need to repair machinery that the Fluros have broken. The levels consist of a factory, orchard, and mines. Through these levels you will discover new types of Fluro that you can use. You also need to capture each type which will then give you a seed. The seeds can be thrown on the grown and spray with liquid to form whichever Fluro it is. These vary from ones that like to press switches, chase you, collect liquid till they pop, hide from light, or go to the light.

The puzzles in the game are challenging and fun to do. I had a few that really made me think but the fun was in discovering how to get the different Fluros to work for you. The story also wasn’t too bad and did add a little to the game but it was really all about the puzzles. Overall Vessel is a fun challenging puzzle game to play and should not be missed.

Bear Pros:
Great liquid physics
Fun challenging puzzles
Fluro characteristics

Bear Cons:
Somewhat lackluster ending
Only three areas to explore
Needs more of these great puzzles (not really a con)

South Park: The Stick of Truth Review

I’ve played your typical snow, lava, or water level but a rectal, yes rectal as in your butt, level has now completed every possible variation of level design. This is just one small over the top humor and craziness found in South Park. If you watch or have ever seen the show you know this is typical SP humor.

In South Park you play as the silent new kid who just moved into town and are told to go outside and make friends. You meet Cartman, Butters, Princess Kenny, and a few others who are LARPing (Live Action Role-Playing) and playing as the humans. They ask you to join and help protect the Stick of Truth because whoever controls it can control the Universe.

You start out fighting against the elves who are played by Stan, Kyle, and some other kids. Things just get even crazier though as you go onto fight aliens, bums, and Nazi zombies. Majority of the story takes place in South Park but will also see Canada and a spaceship along the way. The story is funny and enjoyable to go through. Especially if you love the South Park show.

The game is a turn based RPG where you control a party of two but the option to switch one character with others who join you. When you pick your attack you try to hit the button at the right moment to get a perfect hit which can add a boost to the attack. Each character has one main weapon, melee or projectile, and magic attack except your character may do both melee and projectile. You can also do gaseous attacks which can explode or cause people to be grossed out.

Throughout the game when you meet new people they will send you friend requests just like Facebook. After you become friends you will start seeing posts on your “Facebook” profile from them. These can be very funny and sometimes creepy. You also have many collectibles to find in the game like all the weapons and outfits. You can also try to locate all the Chinpokomon, which are SP’s parody of Pokémon in case you didn’t know. Hence the name.

My only gripe with the game was it felt short and I would have loved many more hilarious side missions. Maybe we could get lucky and see some DLC or maybe even a sequel if it sells enough. The game was a blast to play and had a great story that had me laughing many times. If you enjoy South Park and are looking for some really good laughs or even disturbing images, some of these I can never forget, than this is the game for you to play.

Bear Rating 9.5/10

My Road to Improvements

So the other day I bought this bundle of software that all proceeds went to charity. The Learn to Code Bundle has a ton of stuff to help teach you how to code. So why not learn and try and actually make a cool site for my blog and stuff. This may take me some time but it would be cool to do.

Yesterday I also had an oral board for a different position at my job. In case you're not sure what an oral board is it's where you sit in front of 2-3 people who ask you questions about the job you are applying for. Can be a little nerve racking. Now the job sounded good before this and it paid quite a bit more than I get now but after getting in there I realized this was not for me and not what I wanted to do. Plus it was a lot more technical than I thought. The great thing is I didn't make it passed there to another interview which is a big plus cause I really enjoy where I'm at and don't want to go anywhere. I work with a great group of people and it's just a fun job.

I'm going to try and post more often but only if it's actually worthwhile. No couple sentences type of posts. Just a waste of time in my opinion. I also should have a new review coming sometime soon for South Park: Stick of Truth. Plus I'll have updates on my coding progress as it goes on.

Once again thanks for stopping by and reading.

The Start of Something New

So I've finally decided to try and put together a real blog for my gaming hobby and may sometimes including my other hobbies like movies, TV shows, comics, and books. Hell who really knows what I may feel like posting. If you like it awesome and if not I guess you're just not one of the cool kids. Seriously though I hope this does get read and enjoyed.

This probably should have been my first post but I wasn't really thinking about doing much with this blog except post my game reviews on it. After talking to a gaming buddy I realized I should do more with it. It actually could be fun.

So here's a little about me so you kind of know the person behind the awesome mask which is my profile pic. My name is Chris Brennan or  a.k.a. DazeOfWar a.k.a. Daze The Bear Chieftain as the gaming community knows me. I'm a happily married 35 year old father of three. Sorry ladies I know I'm irresistible but it just can't happen.

I work for the City of Henderson in their utilities department helping keep our water and sewer infrastructures in working order. I really enjoy and love my job, I mean come on how could you not love getting to play in the mud and water like we did when we were kids. They also really take care of their employees. Which is a big plus in this world. Great people to work with and loads of fun.

I've lived my whole life in Henderson, Nevada and could never live anywhere else. It's one of the greatest places to live. Weather is usually always great, yes it does get hot in the summer, with no worries of tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes, and snow storms. It's close to many great places to visit with just a little drive time. Plus it's right next to Las Vegas which many people love.

Well that's about it for now for an introduction. I hope you all enjoy my future writings and please comment away cause it's always good for conversation.

Reperfection – Volume 1

Reperfection is a point & click thriller where your wife was killed in a car accident and you somehow get the power to travel back in time when you look into her eyes at the funeral. With this power you try to figure out how to save her from dying but when you change one thing another happens that’s not a happy ending either.

It’s all told through a comic book style where each section is in a panel of the page. You can jump back and forth between panels by clicking on the previous one or vice versa. Sometimes this is necessary to solve each puzzle. Puzzles had a decent challenge to them but nothing too hard to drive you crazy.

Overall Reperfection was a fun little game which is only the first volume of what I hope to be a continuing storyline since there was a nice twist at the end of it. It doesn’t take long to complete and it was cool to see how things would change with the changes you would make in time. So if you have a few hours to kill this is a perfect game to fill that gap.

Bear Rating: 8/10
